No matter how careful you are, sometimes your garbage disposal clogs up. Billy the Sunshine Plumber can help with that.
You’ve just come home from a shopping trip to the Spring Hill Farmers Market. You’re busy cleaning vegetables and preparing them when it happens – your garbage disposal stops working. It’s not only irritating, you’re at a loss because you try to be careful about what you dump in the sink.
No matter how careful you are, dummies.com says that garbage disposals can be “finicky, so don’t expect it to devour and digest everything. For example, don’t throw corncobs, artichokes, avocado pits, or fish and chicken bones down a disposal and expect it to continue working without a clog.”
Those aren’t the only causes of a garbage disposal clog. Dummies.com says the most likely cause is dropping a foreign object, like a spoon or fork, into it; feeding garbage in too rapidly; or failing to run enough water while the disposal is working.
If you do have a clog – the first thing to do is cut the disposal off. Then take a look into the disposal to see if something is stuck there. If there is, then use a pair of pliers to reach into the disposal to lift it out – NEVER stick your hand into the disposal, even if it is off. Wait 15 minutes for the disposal to cool. Then turn it back on and hit the reset button, which is usually found on the bottom of the disposal.
If that doesn’t work, it could be time to call the drain cleaning pros at Billy the Sunshine Plumber for help.
