The toilet paper shortage is over. But drain and sewer clogs caused by wipes are still with us. Billy the Sunshine Plumber can help you with that.
A recent story in the Wall Street Journal noted that toilet paper manufacturer Kimberly-Clark clocked its worst sales decline in a decade. The reason was the drop in toilet paper consumption. That’s a far cry from a year ago when the nation was plagued with a toilet paper shortage as some consumers stockpiled rolls upon rolls of it.
Although the toilet paper shortage may have ended, homeowners are still plagued with one other bathroom-related problem – clogs caused by the flushing of sanitary wipes. The wipes, which have seen increased usage during the time of Covid, are clogging up systems across the U.S. causing backups and clogs in homes, businesses and municipal sewer systems.
Apparently, the message that you shouldn’t flush a wipe – even if it’s packaging says it’s flushable – is not getting across. Some cities, like Largo, are even putting the word out on their website: “A Toilet is not a Trash Can- Be sure to never place any items in your toilet, even ‘flushable wipes’ as they can block your drain and cause backups in homes and businesses.”
Admittedly, it can be hard to think about that when it’s so easy just to flush it away. But the buildup and backup can be nasty. Sometimes you can clear the clog yourself. At other times, you need help from a trusted plumbing specialist like Billy the Sunshine Plumber.
