If you have a clogged drain because of grease or anything else, it’s time to call the clogged drain specialists at Billy the Sunshine Plumber.
One of your favorite holidays of the year is almost here – Thanksgiving. It’s a great holiday on its own, but it also kicks off the Christmas and New Year holiday season. You love them all, from the many activities to the shopping for just the right gift to the entertaining. All that cooking for family and friends is one of your great joys.
At least it is until you gt a clogged drain.
There are many reasons for a drain to clog. One of them is grease. Grease is such a common reason for clogged drains, that the city of Clearwater has sent out a notice ahead of this Thanksgiving to remind folks not to pour grease into the sink. The city isn’t only concerned about the effect on your plumbing. It’s also concerned about the effect of grease on city sewers and plumbing.
“Pouring cooking fats, oils and greases down the drain this holiday season can cause serious and expensive pipe blockages,” Clearwater Public Utilities and the Solid Waste/Recycling Department says. “Grease that is poured down the drain causes costly plumbing problems, resulting in sewer backups, blockages and sewer overflows.”
The department is asking residents to repurpose their cooking fats, oils and grease this holiday season.
Follow these steps to repurpose cooking greases:
- Place leftover cooking greases, frying oils, meat drippings, and bacon fats into a container.
- Take the grease to the city’s Solid Waste/Recycling drop-off center at 1701 N Hercules Ave. The Solid Waste Recycling Drop-off Center accepts fats, oils and greases, and it is open to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No commercial material will be accepted.
- Pour the contents of the container into the large barrel that is on-site. Take the empty container home or place it in the trash afterwards, as a container with a layer of grease inside is not recyclable.
Of course, sometimes clogs happen whether they are the fault of grease or something else.
