Sometimes it’s hard to spot a leak from your faucet.
You were rinsing dishes at your kitchen sink when Clearwater’s July 4 fireworks show began. You cut off the water and rushed out to the deck to “ooh” and “aah” with your family and friends. When you got back to the sink, you noticed a small puddle of water by the base of the faucet. You shrugged it off, but after thinking about it, you’re wondering if your faucet is leaking.
You could be right. Thespruce.com says that you most obviously have a leaky faucet when you can see water dripping from the faucet. But, just because you don’t see drips, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a faucet leak.
“A leak around the base of the faucet, where the faucet body meets the sink, is not quite as obvious since users are constantly splashing water around the sink deck and base of the faucet. But if you frequently see puddling water on the sink deck around the faucets, you may have a leak in this area. In these situations, the leaking occurs only when the faucet is turned on,” the spruce.com says. “To check for this kind of leak, start by drying up all the standing water on the sink. Then, turn the water on (both handles if it’s a double-handle sink), and look carefully for water seeping around the base of the faucet.”
If you do have a leak, it’s likely either a dried up or cracked O ring. If not that, thespruce.com, says it could be a worn inner valve cartridge.
