Billy the Sunshine Plumber can help if one or more of your faucets is sputtering.
There’s so much to do this holiday season from boat parades to tours of holiday light exhibits to plays and other events. The last thing you want to do is have to tangle with a plumbing problem in your home or business. But that’s what it appears you’re going to be stuck doing. This morning, your bathroom faucet was sputtering when you turned it on.
Sputtering, or uneven water flow, can generally be traced to one (or maybe more) of three causes – a clogged aerator, a faulty valve cartridge or air in your water lines, according to thisoldhouse.com.
Thisoldhouse.com says you can check for yourself where the problem is likely coming from. First, remove the aerator and, if it has deposits in it, clean it then re-attach it. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you can then move on to the valve cartridge to see if it is clear. If it’s not, then it needs to be replaced.
Replacing the cartridge requires you to shut off your water, then remove the sink handle and “remove the hardware underneath—including retaining nuts, clips, and the O-ring. Cartridges vary widely between manufacturers and models, so bring the old cartridge with you to the hardware store to ensure you select the correct model.”
If that’s not the problem, thisoldhouse.com says you likely have air caught in your lines: “This can come from simple temperature fluctuations, or more seriously, a breach in the main water supply lines. To clear air from the lines, run cold water from the faucet for five minutes. If this does not resolve the issue, consult a professional plumber to find the source of air intake within your pipes.”
If you don’t already have a plumber you can trust, you can make the hunt easy – just call Billy the Sunshine Plumber.
