You have to admit you’ve been going a bit stir crazy as the safer-at-home order has dragged on, but you see some light at the end of the tunnel now that Pinellas County plans to open its beaches this coming Monday. While you plan to be there bright and early for a walk along the water’s edge, you haven’t decided whether you’ll wear a face mask.

You might think that would go without saying, but apparently it doesn’t. At least in Philadelpha where officials are coping with clogged sewage system from the face masks, gloves, disinfectant wipes, and other personal protective equipment (or PPE) that residents are flushing. According to a story in billypenn.com, “So far 19 of Philly’s pumping stations have been ‘impacted’ by PPE waste.”
According to the story, “Officials issued a warning about the dangers of wipe-flushing more two weeks ago. Now, the Philadelphia Water Department is seeing 12 times more clogging than normal at its processing facilities: 100 lbs a month of waste, versus 100 lbs a year, per the mayor.”
And, the mayor points out that the problems aren’t limited to the city’s water treatment facilities, homeowners are also seeing problems.
