Old House, Old Pipes | Leak Detection

If you’re wondering whether your plumbing is in good shape, call the leak detection experts at Billy the Sunshine Plumber.

Plumbing is one of those things in life that you don’t generally think about until something goes wrong. Then, you think about it a lot. But recently, you’ve found yourself thinking about it more and more mainly because city systems have been in the news so frequently. Some of that news has been about increasing water and sewer rates. Other times, it’s been about sewage spills caused, in part, by aging pipes and infrastructure.

And that’s made you wonder about your home, which was not built recently. And you know without the Insurance Journal having to tell you that “The older a building, the more likely it is to have serious defects, particularly in critical building systems such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC and roofing.”

Basically, you’re wondering if it’s wise to be pro-active and have your pipes checked – and repaired or replaced – now before something urgent happens. Or, should you bide your time and just hope nothing will go wrong with your home’s plumbing and piping?

The Insurance Journal suggests that you should get things checked out.

Piping presents a significant challenge. Because it is largely concealed – hidden behind walls or beneath concrete slabs – it is generally ignored until a failure occurs. In buildings where piping is accessible, such as in crawl spaces or basements, it can be inspected for signs of wear and deterioration so that repairs can be made in a timely manner, before any loss occurs,” the Journal says.

Building owners whose properties have inaccessible or outdated and plumbing systems should engage licensed plumbing professionals who have the technology to assess the condition and wear of the piping, such as by using a plumbing camera to capture digital video and images from inside the pipe. This process can identify the origins of any leaks, and bring to light other problems, such as corrosion or blockages, so that they can be repaired before a failure occurs.”

The people to call for leak detection service – and for needed repairs or replacement – are at Billy the Sunshine Plumber. Billy Sunshine, as he’s known, has been in business longer than most houses in the Tampa Bay area have existed. That’s right, Billy the Sunshine Plumber was founded in 1924, almost 100 years ago.
